When it comes to faceted gemstones Emerald is probably my favourite. My personal investment collection of gemstones is made up primarily of Emeralds, and I've surprised myself more than a little by taking so long to list what is one of my favourite stones.
Faceted Emerald is a tricky one to explain. Unlike other faceted gemstones, so much is tolerated in terms of impurities and imperfections within the Gemstone, which would not be accepted in other faceted gems. Emerald is a Beryl gemstone, it's intense green colour is caused by traces
of chromium and sometimes vanadium. the combination of these compounds and elements what causes numerous fissures and imperfections. If you can find an Emerald with good colour that are flawless the naked eye, you should buy it if you can afford it. In the future maybe I'll list some of my perfect Emerald. But for now I've got my son's University fund written all over them.
Emerald is regarded as the birthstone for May, and associated with the astrological star signs of Taurus and Gemini. There are deposits of Emerald on every continent. But the very best of it comes from South America. Columbia to be precise.
I'll be listing a limited quantity of entry level faceted Emerald mind in India. They are pretty and functional and we'll make lovely jewellery. However the price of emerald has been rising faster than any other Gemstone over the past 6 or 7 years. Hence my reason for investing. If any of you guys are interested in making a medium term investment in Emeralds drop me a line.
